This electrolytic capacitor is rated for 85°C and offers leakage characteristics comparable to tantalum capacitors at a more competitive price. Utilizing an electrolyte, either liquid or gel with a high ion concentration, it achieves greater capacitance than other capacitor types. As a polarized component, it requires the positive terminal voltage to exceed that of the negative terminal. Commonly employed in power supply applications, it effectively reduces voltage ripple and provides input and output smoothing as a low-pass filter (LPF).
